I have been shooting photos with the same kit lens (SEL1650) for almost a year now, it was the lens that came with my Sony Nex-6. The SEL1650 is a great beginner lens but if I was trying to get better quality images I knew I had to upgrade my glass. After researching for months I made up my mind on the SEL1018, it has great reviews but it was tough to justify the $850 price. It went on sale last week for $750, plus I had a 10% coupon so I bought it. I made plans to shoot all day Sunday around the Tampa Bay area but couldn’t resist to get some test shots in the mean time.
The SEL1018 has a sweet spot between 12-16mm & f/8-f/11, this photo was taken with the following settings: ISO100, 12mm, f/8. It composed of 3 exposures captured handheld. I took about 40-50 photos last night but I can already see a huge improvement in the clarity & color accuracy compared to the SEL1660.
